The Whitewater Valley Railroad is proud to present our Throttle Time experience. The general public will be offered a chance to operate one of our historic diesel-electric locomotives on the railroad's main line as a guest engineer.  Each guest engineer will participate in a brief operational training session before sitting at the throttle for 30 minutes of actual hands-on locomotive operations.  The locomotive will operate "light", without attached train cars.  Operation will begin with a walk-around inspection of the locomotive followed by basic instruction on safety and operation.  The instructor will then take the locomotive to an appropriate location along the track where the guest engineer will take over the locomotive's controls.

Times available are 12:01 PM, 1:01 PM, 2:01 PM, and 3:01 PM.  The Throttle Time experience costs $150 and includes a one-year membership to the Whitewater Valley Railroad and a subscription to our newsletter Towpath Tracks.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older, have normal vision and hearing, be able to climb steps into the locomotive cab unassisted, and be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.  Participants will be asked to sign a waiver of liability in case of injury or accident.

Throttle Time takes place at the Whitewater Valley Railroad's shop and yard in Connersville, Indiana at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and State Route 121. (This is 3/4 mile south of Grand Central Station in downtown Connersville.)

NOTE: This train is not affiliated with the POLAR EXPRESS and does not operate to the North Pole.

The Railroad reserves the right to change train equipment, schedules and/or fares without advance notice. The railroad cannot be responsible for unscheduled delays. The Connersville Station is handicap accessible. Our trips are not currently handicap accessible. We hope to fix this in the future. Most times if someone is not restricted to a chair we can accommodate them on our cars. There are between 4 to six steps to climb to board the cars. The 1920's & 1930's passenger cars used on our excursions were constructed before disability accessibility laws were adopted. We will make all reasonable efforts to accommodate differently abled passengers who desire to ride one of our trips. Platforms, boarding areas, stairs, step-stools, seating, and especially doorways, passageways and aisles may not accommodate all passengers. Historic and antiquated rail passenger equipment, like that used on our excursions, is exempt from ADA regulations under U.S. Code: Title 42: Section 12184.
