The Whitewater Valley Railroad has been devastated by catastrophic flooding.
In the early morning hours of August 13, the West Fork of the Whitewater River crested at an unprecedented 21.78 feet at Alpine, Indiana. Because our railroad follows the historic Whitewater Canal towpath alongside the river, our line received the full force of the floodwaters.
We are still assessing the full extent of the damage, but it is already clear that significant work lies ahead before trains can safely operate again. Repairs to our railroad will require time, resources, and the support of people who value this historic treasure.
